Hiyori Pixy 1/8 (Good Smile) review

Here’s the first figure from Good Smile for 2009 , and for me it’s a little disappointment …
This is not a bad figure , not at all but i was expecting more … I hope people at Good Smile are not going to stop improving in figures because they sell lots of Nendoroids … But seeing the quality of figures from Alter in 2008 (Lala , Yami , Klan and Gwendolyn) , i can’t help but expect more from all the makers …
I’m aware i’m surely going to be the only one writting a not so nice review for Pixy but i decided to be more strict so it starts now .
I can’t say that she doesn’t look like the proto shoots , Good Smile delivered an exact copy to the proto and that’s good . So what’s the problem then ? It’s the cast off , again . I don’t like cast off option on figures and this time again it makes a great figure looks less nice . The cast off system is not too hard to do but it’s going to leave marks on your figure and paint … And worse , the outfit parts on her legs can be cast off too but because of the transparency or if , the cast off system is easy to spot and there is big separation lines on it … i don’t know if you can see it on the pics , but in real it’s a bother for me …
The paint job on the figure is good , nice shading on the body and hair and the details on the pumpkin are impressive . her face is really cute too and the eyes (both pair ^^) are nicely painted . BUT why separate the two strands from the head ? It’s a bother to put on the figure and it looks easy to break … The best part is that her “hat” (the pumpkin) is magnetic and another magnet is on Pixy head , so the hat is fun to put on and remove . Sadly the rest of the cast off is not magnetic , maybe they should do something like that for all the body .
Overall Pixy is a really cute figure with a sweet pose and nice painting , but the bad cast off system and the separation lines on the legs parts is spoiling the general quality quite a bit …

Hiyori Pixy ! Elle est vraiment belle, les couleurs sont assez pétantes (un peu comme pour Klan Klang). Par contre, c’est vrai que le cast-off, c’est bien lourd… Ca casse pas mal le charme de la demoiselle cette foutue marque (pile pour l’exposition…).
Bon ça reste une très belle pièce, mais que le cast-off “gache” tout de même (pour pas changer, ça sert à rien le cast-off de toute manière >_<)

I think the cast-off here is both very good and kind of mediocre. The seems on the leggings are obviously the bad part, though it doesn’t bug me enough to take away from the good. Her costume design makes it easy to make this a cast-off without having to make a compromise somewhere, so it looks good in either mode.

you were less harsh than i thought
it is too bad when the figure appears to suffer on account of the cast off. like you… i don’t particularly like cast off – once the figure is in the configuration i like… i usually leave her alone. (and that configuration is usually the default) I like the megahouse queen’s blade cast off the best… but unfortunately it’s still useless to me since i display them in their full outfits -_-
kind of ordered hiyori on a whim but doesn’t look like i’ll regret it ^^ kawaii~

Now I understand why you mentioned the cast-off is bad. I too was afraid of leaving marks on her when I slide her outfit off. But it’s not too worrying … it would be if the outfit was any harder to get off.
I mentioned the strands too … it really is puzzling especially since the strands are harder and easy to break.
I guess Hiyori is best left alone to admire. She is so pleasing to the eyes anyway. ^^

Already said this at happysoda and will say it here to… this figure is great for one type of shots that you normally don’t see in figures, which is artistic nude. She’s perfect for it but you need a macro lens for that.
You said you were expecting more from it and that gsc may be dropping in quality because of nendoroids…in a way its true, when a company does not concentrate on one subject it tends to not getting the best quality in its products while Alter is fully for figures. Alter is the best of all three but I really can’t wait for Saber lily, if the final product has the same degree of decline I saw on Shiki (yes for me the final version of kimono shiki wasn’t good) then I’ll say that MaxFac has declined because of gsc

Not my type of figure as she’s a ‘random’ character to me. My friend ordered her and I’m sure u know the reason why. lol
With GSC cast-off feature, I like how they provide that as an optional feature but I don’t think they are informing their buyers very well about the consequences it may lead when casting them off. Maybe a caution or warning sign about the side effects it may lead like for eg. smudges, scratches etc.
This would’ve made my think twice about casting off Char and recasting her back on. -_-

she looks good but even with the amazing detail she still seems to plain for me. I might pick her up if she goes on sale as most cast off figures do. lots of people tend to not like cast off figures for some reason

Très belle review James!!!
Je me suis beaucoup demandé si j’allais regretter de ne pas l’avoir acheté (dur décision).
Bein en faite, tu me confortes dans mon idée de ne pas la prendre.
A part son visage et la sublime citrouille qui lui sert de chapeau, je n’aime pas le reste.
Je préfère de loin Chuchu Astram.

A se demander si Eroge + Good Smile, ben ça fait forcément vendre et du coup, ben la qualité s’en ressent et ils ne se foulent plus..
C’est dommage
Et elle n’est pas si male… si ?

The Old Castoff Story…
I usually display my figures fully clothed and its a pain to me when i have to castoff figures to remove the plastic.Most castoffs arent done good either making figures look fat or simply beeing ugly.I think this castoff is still on the “okay” side.It isnt really bad but it isnt nice either.
I just experienced the comfort of magnets to cast off figures.Thats the way it should be done!

for me an easy cast off is nice? wy? i don’t have to use much of my strenght which may cause the paint damaged
a few thing such as the transparant part on the leg can’t help
but i’m relieved when i see the final
the proto has a seamline[lini] on the leg , just for it cast off ability [make her legs looks ugly when casted off]
i’m relieved they change the systwm and make the seamline on the transparent clothes

I suppose with such design the seam lines on the leggings for castoff are unavoidable. Not my kind of figure, but I kinda like the pumpkin’s expression there lol
