Seena Kanon 1/7 (Max Factory) review

Here’s the most awaited second figure from Shining Wind by Max Factory . Last year’s (in fact October 2007) Kureha was a big hit and was (and still is) one of the most ranked figure in the market . Now more than one year later , Max Factory finally gave us their version of Seena . I personaly don’t like Kotobukiya’s Shining’s figures a lot , so it was without any thinking than i preordered this one , knowing it would be way better than Koto’s . And it is .
I know some people are going to be quite happy about one “detail” on Seena , Max Factory did keep her striped pantsu , and she’s not shy about showing it to us . Another thing that made me happy is the hat , it’s magnetic , so it’s easy to put on and off . I’m glad this magnetic feature is starting to be more and more used on figures , it’s going to be really important in the future , and it’ll be maybe the end of the actual cast of system that makes figures looks bad .
Back to the figure , no surprises with the sculpt or painting , it’s Max Factory as their best . The painting is great but nothing awesome like the latest work from Alter And Griffon , but the painting is precise , with shading everywhere . And there’s something about Max Factory painting , the figures never looks shiny or saturated . The colors are always just the way they should be , and i love that . You can always recognize a Max Factory figure by the paint , if you don’t believe me , just check your Kureha then the other figures in your collection , and you’ll know what i mean by that .
Seena’s face seems like the problem for some people from what i read , i do agree that it can look strange in pictures , but please look at the original artwork , and you’ll see that Max Factory did respect the original drawing and you can’t say it’s not Seena .
Another thing that i like about Max Factory is that the retail figures always look like the proto shots (even the unpainted one) . You can preorder it without hesitation , because you always get what you see .
Max Factory sure made us wait for Seena a long time but it’s not for nothing . Seena is far from a disapointement and is as good as Kureha was at the end of 2007 , maybe even better (lots of details on the clothes and the paint used for the armor part on her chest looks great) .
It’s a must have for all Shining Wind fans and for everyone else . She will looks great beside Kureha and her cute blue stripped pantsu is surely going to charm you 
. The only bad thing is that now we’ll surely have to wait for at least one year before getting the next girl in the serie .

Next review in two days i think , it’ll be Rin Natsume (yes , another one !) by Enterbrain . Better than all other versions available . And i want to thank you all again for all your comments , i’ll try my best to keep doing reviews .

She is one fine detailed figure. I reckon Max Factory just took one step forward with her and u can really see it with the metal paint finish on her chest and with the usage of the magnets in her hat.
Did I mention one of my favourite colours is blue
An absolute gorgeous work by Max.
Great photos James. I bet 4 hrs was worth it but hey, they are ur work so I love them either way.
U haven’t disappointed me at all.

Les photos sont comme toujours très belles, et j’ai une petite préférence sur la première série avec fond coloré.
Concernant la figurine, elle semble de bonne finition (normale c’est de Max Factory. Mais ce qui m’a le plus étonné, ce sont les couleurs. Je les trouve très belles, vivantes et prononcées. Par contre, je n’accroche pas à la pose, et au sourire.
Une belle figurine, mais un “sans plus”.

en tout cas bravo pour ces jolies photos… mais cette fois-ci, elles ne me feront pas craquer car la pose de la figurine n’est pas à mon goût.

Totally agree with you on Max Factory’s painting … I personally feel they are the best in the business in that area.
Nice take on Seena. She is very nice and tons better than Koto’s. The only thing I didn’t like was the pose selected, but I guess as you mention is true to the original illustration.

wow, 4 hours! what was giving you trouble/taking time?
i have to be honest, the green background looks like it affected the white balance a little? something seems a little off to me… ‘course take that with a grain of salt, i’m no graphic designer ^^;; pics on the white background are crystal clear, love those without reservations ^^
i’ve been wanting a kureha figure for a while, but i wanted the max factory release, which has been sold out everywhere orz as you mentioned, koto’s stuff just seemed to fall short and I felt like i’d be settling if i got one ^^;;

9.2 out of 10!! I really support that score and I can understand why. Cool pictures with very high detail.
I dont know, but somehow she kind of reminds me Mai (from My Hime) but i guess its because of her skirt. *looking from behind*

Sublime Seena. La réalisation a l’air vraiment parfaite. J’aime beaucoup la peinture métalisée utilisée pour “le protège poitrine” et le chapeau aimanté amovible est un réel petit plus.
Le seul point négatif que je peux lui trouver est son sourire qui ne passe pas très bien.
Bref, j’espère que la prochaine Shining de Max Factory sera Elwing.
Et comme à ton habitude, tu nous as fait une superbe review avec de très belles photos (je préfère celles sur fond blanc ce coup-ci).
J’ai eu un peu de mal à traduire tout ce texte mais ça en valait la peine.

Congrats on getting her. I pre’d her to match Kureha. I agree Max Factory is vastly superior to the Koto versions, but their Shining line for their US prices are really good for the quality you are getting.
Max Factory is a very good figure company to buy from. I prefer ALTER and Megahouse QB/QG line, but that’s just personal preference. She is, indeed, accurate to the art.

Kureha is surely the more well known one out of the Shining Wind figures, and other than Blanc Neige I know noone else -_-;;
The pose is a bit intriguing; she’s sticking her bottom out yet pointing her sword at the same direction as well. But wow 4 hours is a really long time to spare. Thanks for the hard work~

Lovely pose, the face is simply gorgeous, normally we don’t get figures with “teeth” because it might come out bad but this is a total win
. Echi pose no doubt but cute in a way, although not a totally embarrassed expression, simply the right way of saying with a smile where are you looking at 
.
Love the details on the clothes and the hair is simple and yet it is great. Definitely a great job by Max Factory, *thumbs up

and the pics with colored background are processed , when the one on white are direct from the lens . That’s why you prefer the white ones

My only grief with this figure is that her pose seems a bit unnatural.Everything else is pretty well done.
While many people have problems with her face i thinkthat its just fine
